Popular Trout Fishing Destinations in California

A retired real estate broker from Alameda, California, Don Lindsey managed a real estate brokerage firm from 1965 to 2005. Throughout that time, Gallagher and Lindsey Realtors completed more than 7,000 transactions in the Alameda area. Don Lindsey is an avid fisherman and enjoys trout fishing in his free time.

California is blessed with many lakes for trout fishing. Here are some of the most popular bodies of water in California for angling:

– Lake Almanor. Located in Plumas County in Northern California, this lake is home to some of the largest trout in the state. Brown trout in Lake Almanor range from 4 to 9 pounds, while rainbow trout range from 3 to 6 pounds. The lake’s cold water and plentiful aquatic insects make Lake Almanor a good home for trout.

– The Los Vaqueros Reservoir. Known as a premier trout fishing destination in the San Francisco Bay area, the reservoir’s cold waters contribute to a high population of rainbow trout.

– New Melones Reservoir. Just east of Los Vaqueros, this reservoir is also an excellent destination for trout fishing. Rainbow trout from 5 to 6 pounds are common, while brown trout average 8 to 10 pounds.

– Lake Crowley. A popular trout fishing destination in Southern California, this lake has one of the best populations of brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout. The trout growth rate in Lake Crowley is attributable to an excellent population of chironomid (nonbiting midges, or lake flies).

Old Alameda Post Office Now Houses Medical Offices

Don Lindsey owned and operated Gallagher and Lindsey Realtors for 40 years, during which time he managed 100 Realtors and oversaw more than 7,000 success transactions. Don Lindsey’s achievements include the restoration of commercial and residential buildings in and around Alameda, including the old post office where Kaiser Permanente is now located.

The old Alameda post office was built in 1914 in a renaissance revival style. William A. Newman designed the building and incorporated Tuscan columns and monumental entry arches. The outer walls were accented with granite embellishments. Marble floors were laid in the lobby and Corinthian columns were installed. It was the city’s post office until 1972, when the post office was moved. The city purchased the building in 1974, and it was used temporarily for municipal court events.

Later, the building was rehabilitated and seismic retrofitted. In 2014, BCCI Construction Company upgraded the building. The firm restored the exterior by cleaning and repairing the stone facade, replacing the original wood windows, and making other improvements.

Today, Kaiser Permanente operates medical offices in the building. Patients come to access the pharmacy on-site while also receiving immunizations. An internal medicine office and a family practice are also both located in the building.

Benefits of Roof Restoration Over Replacement

Don Lindsey was part of the Alameda First National Bank Loan Committee for 15 years during his time as a real estate broker at Gallagher and Lindsey Realtors. A current member of the Alameda Board of Realtors, Don Lindsey has restored numerous residential and commercial buildings.

Restoration involves repairing, cleaning, and adding an additional coat of shingles to a roof. Roof replacement, on the other hand, involves removing every part down to its deck and using new roofing materials, including shingles and felt paper.

A major advantage roof restoration has over roof replacement is cost. Compared to roof replacement, which costs a per-square-foot average of $18-$22 depending on the selected roofing system, roof restoration, with a per-square-foot average of about $6-$9, saves on the cost of material and labor. As a maintenance expenditure, roof restoration does not impact property taxes, compared to roof replacement, which is considered a capital expense. In addition, roof restoration is an environmentally friendly practice, as it reduces the amount of roofing waste sent to landfills annually.

Basics of Trout Fishing

Don Lindsey is a former businessman in Alameda, California. He has served as president of the Alameda Chamber of Commerce, and also founded his own company, Gallagher and Lindsey Realtors, which he sold in 2005. In his spare time, Don Lindsey enjoys sailing and fishing, particularly trout fishing.

The first things to consider when fishing for trout are the relevant local laws and regulations. Despite the relative abundance of trout throughout the United States, it may still be necessary to get a fishing license, and there are often restrictions on minimum length and daily limits that vary by location and season.

Trout are freshwater fish that come in a number of species and inhabit lakes, rivers, and streams. Whether the local trout are wild or stocked is another important factor, as it contributes to which bait to select. Stocked trout are used to eating more synthetic-looking fish pellets, and so can easily be caught with this type of bait, but wild trout are better caught through lures that imitate their usual diet, such as bugs and worms.

He has attained the rank of eagle scout with the organization.

Last year, BSA made an agreement with the Coast Guard Auxiliary to establish the Sea Scout program, the official youth development initiative of the Auxiliary. The new program is meant to educate young boaters about the possibilities of a maritime career. Recently, the two organizations began the official rollout of this program and are now encouraging Auxiliary flotillas without Sea Scout ships to establish new ones.

Both organizations hope that the creation of the Sea Scouts will bring new opportunities and expose more young minds to unique pathways for their adult lives through direct interaction with members of the Auxiliary. The new partnership will also help facilitate advanced training in key scientific subjects like technology, mathematics, and engineering.
